FAQ

What is the difference between an MBA and a PGDM degree?

A Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is a theory-based programme that focuses on business and finance fundamentals. It is taught in universities and colleges that are affiliated with the University Grants Commission (UGC). Courses are rigid and have a common curriculum because universities are unified and affiliated with a common primary university. The fee structure is less expensive because of multiple university grants and scholarships. The focus is more on technical and analytical knowledge.

A Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a diploma or certification. It is an application-based programme that focuses on real-world practical skills in management. It is taught in colleges that are recognised by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The course is flexible and involves case studies, on-site training, and simulations. The curriculum is not centralised and differs between individual colleges. The fee structure is more expensive than an MBA since financial aid is not provided. The focus is more on soft skills, practical knowledge, and employability.

Are MBA courses only for entrepreneurs and people interested in beginning a startup?
No, MBA courses including MBA in Human Resource Management are for anyone interested in learning the core business framework and working for a company. An MBA can be pursued by someone enthusiastic about learning new things and solving business problems. After completing the course, candidates can take up various roles based on specialization to learn and grow in the company hierarchy. Some candidates contribute to the back-end growth of the business by pursuing a PhD in management and becoming subject matter experts or consultants.
Is a foreign MBA better than an MBA done in India?

Both foreign and Indian MBA degrees have almost the same commercial and professional value; however, certain factors determine which of the two is preferred for an individual.

A foreign MBA is preferred when an individual aspires to work abroad after course completion. If the candidate has the budget to afford a foreign MBA degree and can additionally organise and manage living expenses, they can pursue an MBA in a foreign country. A foreign degree provides additional benefits such as exposure to different cultures, which is not possible in India.

If an individual aspires to work in India, an MBA can be pursued there. Institutes like the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) provide MBA courses of international quality so that the candidate can not only receive a reputed degree but also continue to work in India.
